10 Questions That Helped Me Become A Millionaire

I can teach you to be a millionaire in about 30 minutes.

Knowledge is not the problem. The internet has free videos and blogs that can walk you through how to do it. Over 5 billion people have access to that information!

So why are there so few millionaires?

Because becoming wealthy is 80% behavior, 20% knowledge.

I can tell a room of 100 people exactly what to do to get rich and I know that only 3-5 of them are going to follow through on it over a long period of time.

So why was I able to do what so many won't? There are a few things, but it starts and ends with your WHY.

See, without defining my purpose, I would give up when I screwed up and get back to what was comfortable. There had to be something greater than everything society threw at me to keep me motivated and on the path to modern freedom.

Asking these 10 questions helped me define my WHY statement and that is what keeps me disciplined, focused and motivated when times get difficult.

10 Questions To Define Your WHY

First, get a piece of paper and write down 15-20 talents you’ve been given...now rank them High-Medium-Low. Keep that list in front of you while you go through these questions.

Don't think too much about the answer. You'll know intuitively. Usually its the first thing to pop in your head.

  1. Why do you do what you do? Whatever the answer is, follow up with the question, why is that important? And whatever that answer is, ask again, why is that important? Do this 2-3 more times.
  2. List a few times when you were the happiest. What were you doing?
  3. What are your interests and what do you crave spending time doing?
  4. What cause or issue can cause you to get on a soapbox?
  5. What are your top 2-3 talents?
  6. What excites you in the world? Give 2 or 3 examples.
  7. What angers you in the world? Give 2 or 3 examples.
  8. What did you do for fun as a kid?
  9. What are your values?
  10. What do you do best?

What To Do Next

Start looking at the paper. What patterns do you see emerging?

Circle the top 5 pieces of information that feel important.

Now, put them into a sentence, no more than two. It needs to be simple.

Start sentences with things like "I believe" or "We work to" or "I envision a world...". Something like that.

The statement can be very different than you thought it be but hopefully its close to what you were thinking.

Don't be long-winded, you are going to want to memorize this. This is you WHY statement. Its a way to define your purpose in life.

It's not meant to be a goal, but more of a direction.

How It Made Me A Millionaire

Your WHY statement can change over time but it shouldn't be regular. Mine is still pretty much the same as its been the past 5 years.

I want to glorify God through my efforts, build true wealth, dedicate my time to my family and helping others.

This statement has led me to do some pretty scary things in the past few years I'm not sure I would have done without having this at the forefront of my mind.

  • I quit my job making $250k/yr with a promotion waiting for me because I couldn't help others the way I wanted to in that position
  • I started a business to enable me to make money, have free time to be with my family and influence people's lives financially
  • Most importantly, I eliminated a lot of things I was doing just for the sake of doing them that weren't aligned to my WHY which gave me free time, joy and the capability to do more things that are significant to me

I'm more excited than ever about the direction my life is headed and I wouldn't be doing 25% of what I'm doing now if I hadn't defined my WHY.

It is key to building True Wealth.

Your WHY is at the beginning and end of all meaningful successes in your life.
